Biography
Joanna L.
Garcia was elected to her first term on Beavercreek City Council, as Vice
Mayor, in November 2017. She is a local Attorney who represents
individuals and businesses in both criminal and civil trials, and currently
works at WilmerHale. In her role at WilmerHale, Joanna collaborates with
attorneys in offices across the country to represent individuals, private
companies and financial institutions in a range of legal matters. She often has
supervisory responsibility for matters that involve multiple states,
jurisdictions, and professionals.
In
addition to serving as Beavercreek Vice-Mayor, Joanna serves on numerous boards
in the community including the Saint Luke Parish Council, Executive Council for
the John Pirelli Lodge and the UD Chapter of the Chi Omega Fraternity. She also
volunteers as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and former Catechist at Saint
Luke Parish, and with the Dayton Bar Association Volunteer Lawyer’s
Program.
A proud
graduate of The Ohio State University, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in
Criminology, with Honors and Research Distinction, and a Minor in Italian.
Joanna is also a graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law where she
served as Executive President of the student body.
Among the
numerous awards she has received are the Best Oralist Award, from the New York
City Bar Association National Moot Court Competition; UDSL Social Justice
Award; UDSL Service Award; UDSL Moot Court Best Advocate Award and Best
Appellate Brief Award. In 2009, Joanna earned the John W. Bricker “Woman of the
Year” Award.
Joanna and
her husband, Ivan, are newer residents to the community and are proud to call
Beavercreek home.
