20th Anniversary Commemoration of 9/11
Saturday, September 11, 2021
A special ceremony will be held in the City of Beavercreek to mark the passage of two decades since the day that forever changed our country - the September 11 attacks.
The commemoration will be held September 11, 2021 at the city’s 9/11 Memorial, located at Beavercreek Station, 1153 North Fairfield Road. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will include performances by Beavercreek High School’s choir and many special guest speakers.
The centerpiece of the city’s 9/11 Memorial is a twisted piece of steel that weighs more than two tons and stands nearly 25-feet tall.
The 9/11 Memorial came about when the City of Beavercreek was given the opportunity to obtain a piece of the fallen World Trade Center from the New York/New Jersey Port Authority.
A committee made of police officers, firefighters, and community members was formed to carefully select a piece and design a memorial.
The piece of steel chosen was once located between the 101st and 105th floors of the North Tower. It was then transported to Beavercreek by the Beavercreek Township Fire Department to be permanently displayed in the city.
The committee dedicated the memorial to the city on the tenth anniversary of September 11.
