[ARCHIVED] Gearing Up for Winter: City of Beavercreek Expands Snow Management Efforts

Public Service Snow Plows

This year marks a significant enhancement in the City of Beavercreek Public Service Division’s snow management strategy. Following the successful passage of the streets levy in November 2022, the division has utilized funds from the levy to hire five additional staff members and purchase more snowplows and essential equipment to improve its winter response. With this additional equipment, the division has increased the number of snow routes throughout the city from 18 to 21. The division will also place a greater emphasis on pretreating roads when conditions allow.

“When it snows, our first priority will always be to clear main thoroughfares and roadways, but we’re excited to have the additional resources to enhance our response this year,” said Joey Shope, Public Service Superintendent. “With the addition of new routes, we aim to clear neighborhood roads more quickly compared to previous years.”

Leading up to winter, public service staff will be driving snowplows on city roadways to ensure they are ready for whatever the colder months may bring.

"Winter comes quickly, and we need to be prepared long before the first snow event," Shope said. "By driving snowplows early, our crews can refine their skills, familiarize themselves with routes, ensure all equipment is functioning properly, and spot potential issues like low-hanging branches that could cause problems during snow removal. It’s all part of keeping our residents safe."

The division asks residents to be patient, allow ample room for snowplows on the road, and avoid parking on the road during winter storms. “Safety is always our priority, and allowing operators the space to maneuver is essential,” said Shope.
