City of Beavercreek Mayor Don Adams attended the annual membership meeting of the Ohio Mayors Alliance (OMA), a bipartisan coalition representing mayors from Ohio’s 31 largest cities. The meeting took place at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus on Thursday, December 12, 2024. During the meeting, city leaders outlined the organization’s policy agenda and state legislative priorities for the upcoming year, including advocating for a dedicated state funding stream to support local public safety initiatives.

“The Ohio Mayors Alliance unites mayors from Ohio’s largest cities and suburban communities to collectively advocate for policies that benefit their municipalities,” said Mayor Adams. “By speaking with a unified voice, the alliance effectively influences state and federal policies on critical issues such as infrastructure funding, economic development, public safety, and education. As a member of this coalition, I firmly believe that collaboration between state and local governments is the cornerstone of effective governance.”

In addition to calling for a dedicated public safety fund for local communities, the Ohio Mayors Alliance proposed several other priorities, including:

  • Establishing a state commission on home rule to safeguard local governance.
  • Creating a state program to incentivize pro-growth housing policies.
  • Implementing enhanced local regulatory protections for products such as marijuana and tobacco.
  • Supporting various state economic development initiatives and programs to bolster local communities.

“By prioritizing policies that address economic development, infrastructure, and public safety, we ensure our communities can thrive,” Mayor Adams added. “Through collaboration, we can build a stronger, more resilient Ohio for all residents. For cities like Beavercreek, participation in the OMA ensures that our residents’ needs are represented at the state level while allowing us to benefit from shared expertise and resources across the state.”

During the meeting, Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted provided an update on the DeWine-Husted Administration’s priorities for 2025. Ohio Development Director Lydia Mihalik also delivered an insightful presentation on population trends in the state. Additionally, the mayors engaged in discussions about cybersecurity, effective local public safety strategies, and other topics of mutual concern.
