The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) has recognized the Beavercreek Police Department as an internationally re-accredited police department for the seventh time. On July 31, 2020, the Commission reported that the Beavercreek Police Department has met the requirements of a highly-regarded and broadly-recognized body of law enforcement standards, and has been selected by the CALEA Commissioners to receive the “Accreditation with Excellence Award.”
The Beavercreek Police Department’s re-accreditation represents the satisfactory completion of a process of thorough, agency-wide self-evaluation of policies, practices and processes, concluded by an exacting outside review from a team of independent assessors. Due to the Covid-19 health crisis, this year’s assessment was rescheduled from an on-site process in March 2020 to a virtual process in May 2020. Public community feedback, as well as structured interviews with select agency personnel and others, were included in the assessment. After the assessment team reviewed all of the department’s policies, procedures, plans, and practices, they reported to CALEA that the Beavercreek Police Department was in full compliance with all applicable standards and met the criteria for excellence and advocacy for enhancing the professional standing of public safety. The decision to reaccredit was rendered by a governing body of twenty-one Commissioners following a virtual public hearing and review of all reporting documentation.
Chief Dennis L. Evers stated, “Our commitment to the accreditation process increases our accountability to our citizens and the community we serve. Our department proactively seeks ways to prevent crime, work in partnership with our schools, social agencies, and the public. The continued support of the Mayor, Council, City Manager and our citizens has been critical to our overall success.”
Accreditation is for four years, during which time the agency will undergo annual reviews attesting continued compliance with those standards under which we were initially accredited. Beavercreek Police Department has been a CALEA-accredited agency since 1999.
