[ARCHIVED] Engineering Division studying traffic signal for removal

Traffic Signal at Germany Lane

The City of Beavercreek’s Engineering Division will study a traffic signal for possible removal beginning the week of Monday, February 13, 2023.

City engineers will study the existing traffic signal at the intersection of Colonel Glenn Highway and Germany Lane. A previous study revealed the intersection does not meet current signal warrant thresholds.

“The traffic volume at this site is low enough to where it no longer warrants a traffic signal,” said City Engineer Jeff Moorman. “By removing the traffic signal, we hope to reduce delays and the number of stops along Colonel Glenn Highway. We also hope to improve safety as most crashes reported at this intersection are rear-end crashes at a red light.”

Signs notifying drivers of the study will be installed at the intersection. The signal will flash for 30 days as engineers evaluate the area. If there are no increases in traffic-related incidents, the signal will be turned off and bagged for 60 days. If traffic continues to flow safely, the signal will be removed.
