[ARCHIVED] Total Solar Eclipse reminders from the City of Beavercreek

solar eclipse

The City of Beavercreek staff, including the Beavercreek Police Department, is diligently preparing for the solar eclipse that will take place on Monday, April 8, 2024, around 3:10 p.m. Historically, eclipse events have led to significant population increases, sometimes doubling or even tripling the size of communities.

The Beavercreek Police Department is anticipating a notable surge in traffic volume. To help minimize congestion, the department recommends that residents consider enjoying the eclipse from the comfort of their homes or nearby open spaces whenever possible.

If you choose to venture to an alternative location, planning ahead is essential. Expect heavy traffic and prolonged wait times on local roads. Your patience and courtesy on the streets are invaluable. Show consideration and understanding toward fellow drivers. Ensure your vehicle is equipped with a full tank of gas or is fully charged if driving. Preparing in advance will save you time and alleviate frustration, as there may be extensive lines at gas stations.

Moreover, drivers should not pull over and park on the shoulder of the highway to view the eclipse. Instead, opt for a safe location to observe this celestial phenomenon. Only call 911 exclusively for emergencies. For non-emergencies, contact the Beavercreek Police Department at (937) 426-1225.

The city’s parks will be open during the time of the eclipse, but the division would like to remind drivers that parking on the grass at city parks is strictly prohibited. Additionally, all city parks close at dusk, and camping is not permitted. The Beavercreek Senior Center will also remain open on Monday, with parking limited to senior center members only.

The Beavercreek Golf Club will also be open on Monday, but players may experience slower play times as the eclipse approaches. Please plan accordingly and allow for additional playing time.

When observing any eclipse, it is important for viewers to utilize safe solar-viewing glasses, commonly referred to as "eclipse glasses," from reputable vendors. Failure to do so could result in eye damage.

Planning ahead can significantly help traffic flow and contribute to a more enjoyable experience for everyone on the day of the eclipse. Let’s work together to ensure that this celestial event is both enjoyable and memorable for everyone!
