[ARCHIVED] Construction Progresses on Vineland Trail to Address Stormwater and Erosion Issues

Vineland Trail

Construction work continues along Vineland Trail to mitigate stormwater and erosion problems, with the project being one of two stormwater initiatives currently underway by the City of Beavercreek. The other project is located along Grange Hall Road near Willowcrest Road.

Stormwater and erosion have led to the formation of a large ditch with steep drop-offs and exposed utilities behind several homes on Vineland Trail, which is located north of The Greene and off Countyline Road.

The project encompasses a range of stabilization techniques, including bioengineered stabilization - a combination of rock, grading, and vegetation - along with rock stabilization, riffles, and live staking. These methods are intended to stabilize the bank and prevent channel undercutting by reducing the stream's velocity.

Construction began in early 2024, and as of June, work has been completed from I-675 to approximately 1,000 feet west of the culvert under Rockledge Drive. This progress represents about one-third of the overall project.

The project will cost approximately $1.25 million, which will be covered by federal funds the city received from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). In developing the strategic plan for utilizing these funds, city council and staff prioritized one-time funding for long-term, high-impact projects that lack alternative funding sources. While these federal funds are vital for addressing some of the backlog in infrastructure projects, they will only cover a small portion of the city’s extensive list of unfunded infrastructure needs.

The project remains on schedule for completion in early 2025.
